Introductory training in the use of OSCQR is available in webinar format or through a self-paced course, with the option of earning formal certification for faculty self-assessment, or as OSCQR Reviewers or Trainers.

OSCQR introductory offerings are free for anyone regardless of affiliation with SUNY, but registration is required. All participants earn digital badges upon completion.

OSCQR Introductory Webinars:

OSCQR Introductory Self-paced Course: – NEW!

  • Introduction to OSCQR (Fall 2026 Pilot) – Designed for faculty, instructional designers, and peer reviewers, this self-paced course prepares participants to review and continuously improve the quality of online courses with OSCQR. The course serves as a self-paced alternative to the OSCQR Self-Assessment and Reviewer webinars, earning the same badges, and upon completion, it presents an optional opportunity to submit materials for OSCQR certification.

Additional OSCQR Webinars:

  • SUNY Online Teaching: Designing an OSCQR Implementation Plan – Completing this presents and overview of tools, resources and information design to help you develop an implementation plan for larger-scale institutional-level online course quality review and refresh initiatives using OSCQR. Experience with online quality rubrics, and the OSCQR tools, resources, and process is assumed.
  • SUNY Online Teaching: Supporting Regular and Substantive Interaction– Completing this provides an overview of the US Department of Education federal regulation on RSI, and how to apply the OSCQR RSI-related standards to support compliance with this regulation at institutional, course, and instructional levels.

Certification

SUNY participants can earn formal certification to confirm their expertise in OSCQR Self-Assessment, as an OSCQR Online Course Reviewer, or Trainer, at no additional cost. Certification requires submitted evidence of the application of the OSCQR rubric in a full course review and refresh process.

Certification is available for any non-SUNY participants for a modest fee to cover the cost of the review of evidence.
