Program Innovation Award – Dr. Karen E. Caldwell
2025 Program Innovation Award – Karen Caldwell, EdD, Assistant Professor of Business Administration at SUNY Potsdam

Dr. Karen Caldwell at SUNY Potsdam has incorporated OSCQR into online graduate and faculty pedagogy courses, linking theoretical frameworks to the OSCQR rubric and processes in academic and professional development contexts. According to Dr. Caldwell, learners often face a disconnect between their studies and real-world relevance. This program bridges that gap, supporting learners’ skills development in authentic experiences. Learners engage in activities that connect course content to the OSCQR standards as they create and evaluate online education resources that align with OSCQR. This experience provides opportunities for practical application, while fostering an understanding of the need for continuous improvement in the design and development of online instructional materials. This approach connects coursework to practical, real-life applications, equipping learners with valuable, engaging and transferable skills.
Learners report deeper learning by applying theory to the implementation of real-life systems like OSCQR. They gain meaningful skills through hands-on projects and earn badges, such as the Online OSCQR Reviewer certification that enhance their evidence of their skills and experiences for their digital portfolio of course work accomplishments.
This program excels in building authentic, transferable skills that connect coursework to real-world applications. We proudly present the first OSCQR Program Innovation Award to Dr. Karen E. Caldwell, Assistant Professor of Business Administration at SUNY Potsdam for the innovative application of the OSCQR rubric in her program.
